Our movie, Waiting, is about 2 friends who are about to meet but one gets caught up by 2 people trying to mug him. The cross cutting in this is portraying Jack getting mugged and Matthew (me) getting annoyed that he isn’t arriving.
I think we executed the cross cutting well in this film. Going from high intense action to a slow and calm scene really increases the juxtaposition. Switching from the calm scene of me waiting at the bus stop really exaggerates the mugging scene.
What I think could be improved on for the next film is not to over complicate things. In this film we choreographed a whole fight scene when there was no need to. We could have spent that time thinking of other ideas for the rest of the film
I’d agree with this — the fight scene works well in places, but that time could have improved other areas. That said, it’s a strong sequence and some of the cuts are absolutely fantastic — well done for this. You could push your reflections further here by using screenshots of your own work to explore particular sequences. Whether it’s your own work or professional examples, using screenshots is such a strong way of illustrating your ideas about a scene has been put together.
