Film I wouldn’t usually watch

Over the Christmas holidays we got given the task of watching a film we wouldn’t usually watch.

I watched a horror film called ‘Clown’. A film directed by Jon Watts.

Personally I don’t really like horror films. I find them to be quite boring and drag on a lot. I definitely prefer films that are entertaining all the way through without having “dry patches”.

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the film, I have learnt quite a lot about film making, especially in the horror genre. An example of something I could do if I was making a horror is edit the suspenseful music to match what is happening. The music helps to build up tension and eventually when it reaches the climax the music peaks and hats usually when there’s the most action or when there’s a jumpscare.

I also noticed in horror films they use camera speed and frequency of shot cuts to help engage the watcher to help defy the mood of the scene. For example a tense shot would have a long, slow movement of the camera to help build the suspension. And when there is an intense moment of high action the camera movement becomes a lot morefast and unsteady making it feel more personal and impactful
