For my Get It Loud In Libraries gig, I based mine in Kendal Library because its the closest one to me.
Initial Research – Over the past couple of weeks in college we have been learning about multi-camera set ups and how to film live performances. This has set me up to try and get the best possible. I have learnt a lot about filming live performances. Not just about recording it but about setting the venue up and taking health and safety into account as well. This includes things like making sure there are no trip hazards and making sure the wires are set up neat enough so that you don’t get mixed up between cameras when recording.
2. Planning – I will place video village here (furthest room to the right from the entrance). This segregated little area will be perfect for video village due to it being out the way and also quite close to where the band will be playing making it easy to watch the band in person instead of on the little screen. It might also be easier to communicate to the people operating the cameras because we’ll be closer to them.
I’m going to have 4/5 cameras set up to get as many good shots as possible. I’ll have the main safety camera facing head on to the band. This could be unmanned if there aren’t enough people to operate all of the cameras. I’ll also have two cameras either side of the band to get two more side angles. These shots could be good to pick up some nice close shots. They’ll both focus on two instruments each. They could also turn around to the audience and get some good reaction shots of the crowd singing and dancing. The final two cameras wont be too close but they wont be too far away either. Thy can get a mixture of both wide shots and close, zoomed in shots of specific instruments. However the problem we then could face is all of the cameras could all focus on the same thing at the same time. We will over come thus by having a group chat open on our phones, the director can say who should focus on what if everything doesn’t go to plan.
Shot List: camera 1 (full band fixed
camera 2 (drums, bass, vocals, crowd)
camera 3 (drums, guitar, vocals, crowd)
camera 4 ( any of the band members, mainly bass)
camera 5 (any of the band members, mainly guitar)
Kit List: 5 cameras
Slider(which will need 2 tripods)
Jib
2 tripods (for cameras 4 and 5)
All of video village (monitor, black magic deck, samurai blade)
Box of wires
3. My Risk Assessment – One of the main hazards we would face during this is the trip hazards from all of the wires running around the room. This could be a trip hazard for everyone: film crew, band and the audience. I will prevent any accidents happening
What you’d done of this is really good, Matthew — I wish you’d finished it! You’d set up the project really nicely, but without it being completed, and backed up with evidence like photos, sketches and floor plans, it’s not possible to get good grades with something like this. Please make sure you complete your evaluations in future projects!
