When we were recording the footsteps we used the Foley effect. We didn’t have any sand so we had to improvise. We bought some cat litter and put it in a tray and used this as footsteps on the sand.
Here is some more examples of what we used to get the footsteps. We tried lots of different ways to make different variations of footsteps. We did some fast ones for running, also some long drawn out ones for someone who may have just been walking.
When adding in the footsteps, I added a marker for every time the first child took a step (I marked it red so I know it is the first child). I’m going to use these markers to help sync up the audio.
When making the audio for the footsteps, these are the statistics I used. I set the preset to “From outside”, the other preset to “wind effect” and finally lowered the volume to -15. This makes it sound more like its in the scene.

To make the effect of the child running across I made it so the sound of the footsteps go from left to right.
Again, Matty, this is full of fantastic evidence of your process — please keep this coming!
