This is the final film for this topic. Overall I am happy with the film. You can tell that my camera work when using the equipment has improved a lot over the 6 week period – especially with the steadicam and slider.
This is my favourite slider shot that I took. It is the right speed that I wanted it to be. Not too fast that it would run out of track room, but not too slow that it doesn’t look very cinematic. Another reason I like this shot is that it has the foreground and background in the frame, however it doesn’t over power the main focus of the shot (the bike).
This is my favourite shot I did with the steadicam from this shoot. In the first week I wouldn’t have been able to keep a track on Dom, keeping him in the frame. Ive used all I’ve learnt over the past six weeks o get the best shots. Although this shot is good there are still a lot of ways I need to improve when film on uneven ground and going quite fast.
This is the story board that I based my film on. Both me and Callan have based our films on the same story board however we did separate shots. We did incorporate some of each others shots, just not the very technical ones. A lot of the shots we shared were just still tripod shots.
This is the fig rig shot that I am most happy with out of all of the ones I did. The spin at the start makes this shot very unique. Although it is still a little bit shaking when rotating I still like it a lot. I also like the way it is so smooth when going down to the lock. I gets to the lock the same time as the key which for me is very aesthetically pleasing.
This is the one dolly shot that I got. If I’m being honest, I’m not very happy with it. The ground where we did it was very uneven. we tried clearing it as best we could but it wasn’t enough. The shots looked good when looking back at them on the cameras little screen but after putting them on the computer I can now see that they are very uneven. Have filmed a lot better with the dolly, especially the other week when we went up to Serpentine woods the last time. I got some really nice, smooth shots with the dolly, in the same area of the woods. One more reason the shot want as nice this time is because I ran out of tracks near the end of the run – it wasnt the end of the world though because I could just crop the video to cut out the part where the dolly runs off the tracks.
Great work Matty — really well done for this. It’s not just a good film, but a really strong project, with you showing loads of skills and progression over the six weeks. I’m also really, REALLY pleased at how your evaluation has improved over the last few projects. This is still a key target moving ahead, as you’re making good progress here — the sorts of reflections you’re showing here are what I’m looking for, so keep digging — it’s a great combo of personal judgement and technical knowledge. You could lift this even further by connecting it to professional work as well. Nice one.
